COMMUNITY SERVICES

The AWA of Kenya Community Services Committee will consider funding projects as follows:

  1. Women's rights and opportunities
  2. Programmes for the Aged
  3. Abandoned / neglected children
  4. Handicapped
  5. Health (HIV/AIDS)

The following guidelines apply:

  1. AWA does not provide loans.

  2. AWA does not fund religious or political activities.

  3. AWA generally does not give funds for consumable items or building / construction materials, but will consider such on a case to case basis.

  4. AWA does not give grants to individuals or families.

  5. Proposals are usually recommended by a member of the AWA and the project site visited prior to consideration of funding. However, in some cases the AWA also considered smaller projects which were presented by letter from Women's Groups for sewing or knitting machines or farm utensils.

  6. If a project has previously received funds, a report as to the disposition of those funds must be on file. This report should be reviewed when considering future proposals which are subject to the committee's current stated guidelines.

As a rule, the AWA expects a project to wait for at least two years until a fresh application is being presented.

  7. Efforts are made by the Community Services Committee to ensure funds are used for the purpose stated in each application.

  8. The recipient organization must be established (registered) two years before a proposal is considered.

The Community Services Committee's function is to identify organizations which fulfill the above criteria and that we feel would be most in need of our assistance. It is not our job to approve the funding, just to recommend. Approval is first through the AWA Board and then through the general membership.
