American Women’s Association (AWA) is a nonprofit, charitable organization promoting community services and development and volunteering opportunities in Kenya as well as providing social and cultural activities for our multi-national members.

The Community Services Committee seeks out suitable projects that need our monetary support. The AWA assists women’s groups and self-help programs and supports education in general. We have built clinics and are currently building a Playground for a local hospital providing treatment for physically impaired children. We also provide funding for several important feeding programs. Funds for these activities come from membership fees and special events, such as the Valentine’s Wine, Cheese & Jazz Night, the Murder Mystery Dinner, and the Annual Christmas Craft Bazaar.
AWA puts the fun in fundraising !

The Volunteer Services Committee coordinates individuals who wish to get personally involved and devote their time one-on-one. AWA members devote their time at a Women’s Center teaching English to deprived young women; working with visually impaired students at a local primary school and at a feeding programme for the elderly. The Committee also organizes collections for Christmas presents for needy children in the numerous local orphanages.

We offer a variety of activities, from culturally enriching lectures and presentations at our monthly General Meetings to socializing at our Coffee Mornings. We also offer a Playgroup and Book Club all of which make finding friends easy.

Membership
AWA has two types of memberships: Regular and Associate. To become a Regular Member, you must be a citizen of any country in the Americas (North, Central, South or Caribbean), a representative of a U.S. firm, or a dependent of any of these.
