American
Women’s Association (AWA) is a nonprofit, charitable organization
promoting community services, development and
volunteering opportunities in Kenya as well as providing
social and cultural activities for our multi-national
members.
The AWA has several
committees and activities to help us reach our goals.
The Community Services
Committee seeks
out suit able projects
that need our monetary support. The AWA assists
women’s groups and self-help programs and supports
education in general. We also provide funding for
several important Food Support Programs. Funds for these
activities come from membership fees and special
events.
The Volunteer Services
Committeecoordinates individuals who
wish to get personally involved and devote their time
one-on-one. AWA members devote their time at a Women’s
Center teaching English to deprived young women; working
with visually impaired students at a local primary
school and at a feeding programme for the elderly. The
Committee also organizes collections for Christmas
presents for needy children in the numerous local
orphanages.
We offer a variety of
activities, from culturally enriching lectures and
presentations at our monthly General Meetings
to socializing at our Coffee
Mornings.
We also
offerOut & About (Visits to Places
around Nairobi), Bevies & Bites
(Evening visits to Restuarants around Nairobi),
AWA
WING
(Women's International Networking
Group),Tennis group and other activities that
members initiate all of which
make finding friends easy.
Our bi-monthly
newsletter, the KARIBU keeps members
informed.
Membership
To become a
Member , you must be a citizen
of any country in the Americas (North, Central, South or
Caribbean), a representative of a U.S. firm, or a
dependent of any of these or any other nationality
providing that American membership are in the majority
of the total membership at the time of application from
the Americas to other members
Annual
Membership Full (American) and Associate (Non-American)
Fee: 3,000 KSH (May 1 to April 30th) or 1,500 KSH (Nov 1
to April 30); Honourary (Over 25 yrs of membership) Fee
1,500 KSH; Life Time Membership Free(Must had 15 yrs
membership + served on Board or standing committee 4
years)(Please make Checks payable to: American
Women's Association (Do not abbreviate) Membership fees
are due in the first two weeks of May of each year or
when joining.
Better yet, join us
by filling out our membership form and bringing it with
you to one of our regular monthly General meetings at
the Zankara Hotel and visit the Membership desk. We look
forward to meeting you and hope you will become an
active member of our association.
